The year began with more positive tones than 2023, setting me on a trajectory to work on a second book, which I completed this year.
Book
I published a second book: Propaganda: From Disinformation and Influence to Operations and Information Warfare (you may get it in many places, for example here, Amazon, or others). The book is as a modern primer on propaganda, covering themes such as disinformation, trolls, bots, information influence, psychological and information operations, and the broader phenomenon of information warfare. It provides a contemporary model for understanding these issues in the context of the technological and societal transformations of the 21st century.
The book also explores the historical evolution of propaganda, its modern applications—including the role of artificial intelligence and advertising technologies—and its legal, political, diplomatic, and military dimensions. It is designed for a broad audience, including security and cybersecurity professionals, policymakers, academics, and students, as well as anyone with an interest in the subject. I’m proud to have made a meaningful contribution to this important area of study.
The book is based on extensive sources and, in places, on my own experience. It required a lot of work but was deeply rewarding.
Work
I continued consulting in information security and privacy projects. Furthermore, I joined the Department of War Studies at King’s College London as a Visiting Senior Research Fellow and became an affiliate of KCL's Institute for Artificial Intelligence. I’ve also had a busy year working and publishing in cybersecurity and data protection.
Contributions
I was active in public outreach. I wrote few things about diminishing returns from hyping disinformation effects, but also disinformation regulations. I made a modest privacy/exfiltration assessment of a web browser API, or internet protocol, data protection and competition assessments of Protected Audience (web browser) API. Lastly, I highlighted potentially troubling new developments in privacy ecosystems, while I still hope for improvement at a scale (that said, AI processing will introduce huge challenges, not least due to data protection regulations). Oh, and you can also support me in some ways like engaging with my books, or the newsletter, not to mention contacting me directly 😊
I presented at several events, including the Swiss Cyber Storm Conference and lectures at King’s College London, where I engaged with students and the broader academic community through open interventions.
If you’d like me to speak at an event, please feel free to reach out!
On Health again?
I continued to be more open about health, which I began addressing in 2023. Yes, it's a private sphere. At the same time, I got useful feedback confirming that such cases are quite scarce in our communities. I hope it offers a useful perspective or understanding to others facing similar challenges.
2025
In 2025, I plan to continue focusing on my existing works. I am also excited about exploring new opportunities and collaborations. I aim to remain accessible and adaptable, ready to take on meaningful challenges that make a positive impact.
I remain open to consulting and work opportunities in areas such as cybersecurity, risk assessment, privacy regulations, and standards. Out-of-the-box proposals are welcome as well—feel free to reach out if interested.
